I feel like a child who is in bed, alone and in the dark. A child for whom the slightest creak inside the wardrobe is of paramount importance. This boy is not concerned about international politics or his father's work, nor is he concerned about the origin or cause of other louder noises coming from the street through the window. The most important thing in the world is happening in his room, in the wardrobe, and this fact deserves his full attention. So he spends the whole night awake and very attentive, hoping to hear it again.

Most important things always happen inside. I am fascinated by everything that symbolizes interior and privacy: especially bedrooms and beds. I have always found the bedroom is a magical place and the bed is the most magical object of all. I like to feel irradiated by the energy that the bed gives off.

It is night time and here I am, in the solitude and silence of my room, where most of the miracles happen to me, where I feel powerful.

There is another type of room I have always felt a special attraction for: cabinets, where people used to retire to be alone, to think, read or practice sadomasochism. That is, a private place within the privacy of the house that becomes a kind of extension of the individual's interior. These rooms were always decorated with a large number of paintings that were part of the owners' most secret collections and that only they and very few other people could see.

Legend has it that King Charles IV's prime minister, Godoy, kept paintings such as Velázquez's Rokeby Venus and Goya's Nude Maja in his private cabinet. Pictures banned by the Inquisition that were to be seen only by candlelight...
